PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh Track and Field team has added Jon Yohman to its staff, as announced by Director of Men's and Women's Track and Field and Cross Country, Alonzo Webb, Wednesday afternoon. Yohman will work closely with the Pitt throwers after spending the past two seasons at Tiffin University.
"Coach Yohman has been coached and mentored by some of the best coaches in the NCAA and brings a wealth of knowledge to this position," said Webb. "Wherever he's coached he has gained the trust of his athletes and therefore has been able to get them to compete at their best in the most important meets. He has mastered the skills to connect with each individual athlete to get the most out of their abilities."
"As an athlete, he competed in the Big Ten Conference at the highest level and gained NCAA All-American status, so he understands what it takes to be successful. He has proven successful in recruiting and coaching at the NCAA level. We're excited for Coach Yohman to bring his passion, expertise, and knowledge to build our throws program to an elite level in the ACC and beyond."
Yohman comes to Pitt after spending the past two seasons as an assistant throws coach at Tiffin University. During his two-year stint at Tiffin, he coached the Dragons to 14 throwing events at the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Championships, which resulted in eight All-American performances.
Prior to his time at Tiffin, Yohman was an assistant coach at Robert Morris where he coached the throwers and pole vaulters and served as the head strength and conditioning coach for all track and field members. During his two-year period with the Colonials, he led Keturah Hunter to school records in the weight throw and hammer throw, coached four individuals to conference championships, as the Colonials claimed ten conference medals in the throws.
Yohman began his collegiate coaching career in 2019 as a volunteer coach at West Virginia. He also owns a strength and throws club called Ox Strength, which he started in 2017.
Yohman was a member of the men's track and field team at Penn State from 2013-2018. He advanced to the NCAA East Preliminaries in three consecutive years, from 2016-2018. In 2017, he made it to the finals in the shot put, finishing eleventh place, receiving All-American and Academic All-American honors.
Collegiate personal bests for Yohman include 19.13 meters (62' 9.25") in the shot put and 55.53 meters (182' 2") in the discus throw. He currently sits sixth all-time in the shot put and eighth in the discus in the Nittany Lions record book.
