PITTSBURGH – University of Pittsburgh divers Cameron Cash and Dylan Reed have been designated as NCAA elite student-athletes and invited to the U.S. national team roster by the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee for the 2023-24 academic year.
The invitations to Team USA come as a result of their performances at the USA Diving Nationals in May. Cash and Reed placed fourth in the synchronized 3-meter with a total of 661.86 points. Individually, Reed finished 10th in the 1-meter (319.60) and 33rd in the 3-meter (270.30).
This is the first time Cash has been named to the national team roster and the second time for Reed. Reed became the first member of the Pitt diving program to garner the recognition for the 2022-23 season.
"This is a fantastic accomplishment for Cam and Dylan," said diving head coach Katie Kasprzak. "Last year, Dylan made history as the first Pitt Diver to earn a spot on the National team, and this year, Cam's addition demonstrates that success cultivates success. The entire team plays a pivotal role in nurturing an elite training atmosphere, enabling everyone to achieve their maximum potential in the pool and the classroom. I am excited to watch the team's continued growth and we are anticipating a fantastic year from dual meets through Olympic Trials."
A native of McLean, Va., Reed is a three-time NCAA qualifier, and a two-time ACC Bronze Medalist in the 1-meter and 3-meter. During the 2022-23 season, Reed claimed the bronze medal in the 3-meter and qualified for the 2024 Olympic Trials at the ACC Championship in Greensboro. Reed also earned honorable mention All-American honors after finishing 16th overall in the 1-meter at the 2023 NCAA Men's Championships. The performance marked the highest finish by a Panther under Coach Kasprzak and the highest since Dominic Giordano claimed 10th in the platform in 2017.
Cash, a native of Spring, Texas, has qualified for the NCAA Championships on all three events in each of his two seasons. Cash placed first overall in the preliminary round in the platform competition at the ACC Championships with a total score of 353.85 and finished fourth overall in finals. Cash also claimed third place overall in the men's 3-meter event at the NCAA Diving Zones and secured an Olympic Trial Cut.
