
Schupansky, Thorsen Named PNC Achievers of the Week

PITTSBURGH – A pair of stellar performances on the pitch resulted in Sarah Schupansky from No. 21 women's Soccer and No. 8 men's Soccer Albert Thorsen earning themselves PNC Achievers of the Week. Both programs posted 5-0 shutout victories at Ambrose Urbanic Field with women's soccer defeating Bucknell and Howard falling to the Pitt men's team.
Schupansky is currently the women's leader in points this season, totaling nine points. In Thursday evening's matchup against Kent State, Schupansky launched an impeccable corner kick for the assist of freshman Lainie Fuchs who scored the game winning goal. The junior secured two more goals on the week in the matchup against the Bucknell Bisons. Schupansky's first goal was a direct shot on goal that found the back of the net after Bucknell's goalie helped tip it in. Her second goal of the afternoon came from a beautiful decision made in her penalty kick. This shot brought the Panthers up to a 5-0 shutout against Bucknell. The Pittsburgh, PA native has recorded four goals and two assists thus far in the 2023 season, totaling 153 minutes.Schupansky's efforts this past week earned her ACC Offensive Player of the Week honors.
Freshman forward Thorsen had a great start to his collegiate career for the Panthers as they went 1-0-1 in the first week of the season. Thorsen finished off his week netting a team-high two goals on six shots. The Norway native opened his collegiate career earning the start against rival Penn State and he delivered the game-tying goal in the 79th minute as Pitt earned the 1-1 draw in front of a sellout crowd (2,000) at Ambrose Urbanic Field. Thorsen backed up his strong opener scoring again in the 5-0 home win over Howard Monday night. He finished the win with a career-high five shots (three on goal) while also netting his first career game-winning goal.
