PITTSBURGH – A pair of record-breaking performances on the diamond resulted in Kat Rodriguez from softball and baseball's Logan Evans earning themselves PNC Achiever of the Week. Both programs enjoyed strong weekends with baseball earning a series victory at No. 5 Virginia and softball scoring 21 runs in front of sold-out crowds at Vartabedian Field, against Georgia Tech.
Rodriguez set a program record by going 6-for-6 at the plate in Saturday's game, marking the most hits in a single game by an ACC player this season. Rodriguez was the offensive spark for the Panthers, finishing with three runs scored, three RBI, two doubles and a home run. She is the first Division I hitter to record six hits in a single game in six seasons (2017). For the week, Rodriguez posted a .500 batting average with three RBI and four runs scored as the Panthers won two of four games.
Evans allowed just four hits over seven innings of work with a career-high nine strikeouts in Pitt's series clinching, 6-4, victory over Virginia on Saturday. The junior from Saline, Michigan earned his second win of the year in just his third start, retiring 21 of 24 batters after allowing three-run homerun to the third batter of the game. This is the second time in his Pitt career that Evans has managed to strike out nine in a game, the other time coming last season against Clemson. Evans' efforts helped Pitt claim the team's 24th win and sixth series win over a ranked opponent under Coach Bell.
