PITTSBURGH—Pitt wrestling's Nino Bonaccorsi added to his 2022-23 season awards tally on Monday when the Atlantic Coast Conference announced its academic recognitions for the campaign.
Bonaccorsi was named the ACC Wrestling Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Pitt's third recipient of the top wrestling scholar-athlete in the conference following Tyler Wilps (2015) and Jake Wentzel (2021).
The 2023 NCAA champion at 197 pounds and Pitt's first national title-winner in wrestling since current head coach Keith Gavin won in 2008, Bonaccorsi led the 2022-23 All-ACC Academic Team by earning top prize following his third selection to the conference's list of premier wrestling student-athletes.

A perennial 3.0+ student, Bonaccorsi is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in English Writing; he is also currently pursuing a second undergraduate degree in Corporate and Community Relations.
In total, a program-record five Panthers were named to this season's All-ACC Academic Team: Luca Augustine (174), Nino Bonaccorsi (197), Reece Heller (184), Micky Phillippi (133) and Jake Slinger (285).
Phillippi earned his fifth selection to the All-ACC Academic squad, while Augustine, Heller and Slinger were all first-time honorees to the conference's prestigious list that honors starters who posted a 3.0 grade-point average in the most recent semester and cumulatively.

Pitt previously had received four All-ACC Academic honors in 2018 and 2021, but half of Coach Gavin's starting lineup from this season met the marks to help set a new program standard in 2023.
In total, Gavin's teams have now produced 20 total All-ACC Academic Team recognitions in his six years in charge of the Pitt wrestling program at his alma mater.
