PITTSBURGH – One of the furthest hammer throws in program history and a career record breaking moment headlined competition on Easter weekend for Pitt Athletics with track and field's Daniel Amaya and Sky Duff from baseball earning the title of PNC Achievers of the Week.
Amaya continued his strong run of form in the hammer throw event for Pitt Track and Field at the Duke Invitational in Durham, N.C. this past weekend. For the fourth meet in a row, the sophomore has improved his distance, this time throwing for 61.83m, a new career-best and the 9th furthest throw in the ACC this season. He became the third Panther in program history to surpass the 60m mark on March 24-25 at the Carnegie Mellon Track & Field Invitational, improving his distance by over a meter in the two weeks since. His new personal best sits just .84 meters shy of the second-furthest throw in program history, held by All-American and ACC Champion, Andrew Wells.
Duff, playing in his fifth season as a Panther, etched his name in the record books this past weekend when he recorded his 149th career walk in Saturday's 9-5 victory over Notre Dame. His record-breaking walk was a pivotal moment in the six-run two-out rally in the bottom of the eighth that vaulted the Panthers over Notre Dame at Charles L. Cost Field. Duff passes 2021 All-ACC awardee, David Yanni, for the most walks in program history. Duff owns the third most walks in the nation, among active players, and is the only player in the country with more than 130 walks in less than 200 games played (187).
