Three Panthers Set for Women’s NCAA Championship

Most Women Qualifiers Since 2018
PITTSBURGH – Diver Jess Vega and swimmers Claire Jansen and Sophie Yendell are set to compete at the 2023 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships, March 15-18, at the Allan Jones Aquatic Center in Knoxville, Tenn. The three Panthers are the most to qualify for the women's championship since Pitt had four compete in 2018.
Vega punched her ticket to the NCAA Championships in the women's platform after finishing sixth overall on the final day of the NCAA Zone A Championships. Her performances in the preliminary and final rounds earned her a 474.95 overall score.
Jansen will swim in the 100-yard and 200-yard backstroke, becoming the first Pitt freshman to compete at the NCAA Championship since 2006. Jansen was a member of the women's 200-yard medley relay team that broke the school record with their time of 1:36.68 at the ACC Championships, while also shattering the school record in the 100-yard backstroke at the UGA Last Chance Meet with a time of 52.33.
Yendell will compete in the 50-yard freestyle, 100-yard butterfly, and the 100-yard freestyle. The Tamworth, England native enters the NCAA Championship tied for 15th on the Psych Sheet in the 50-yard freestyle (21.89) and left the 2023 ACC Swimming and Diving Championships with her name on six school records.
