
Panthers Crush Relay Records on Fourth Day of ACC Championships

Pitt Sends Ten Panthers to the Finals
GREENSBORO, NC – The University of Pittsburgh swimming and diving team completed the fourth day of competition at the ACC Championships Friday night at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
"Today was an absolutely fantastic day," said head coach Chase Kreitler. "Adam (Mahler) broke the 200 fly team record in prelims and qualified for the A final at night. Claire qualified for finals and absolutely shattered the team record in the 100 back. Krzysztof broke the team record in the 100 back in prelims and had another massive drop in finals re-break his record. Both teams finished off the night with team records in the medley relays. We've got one more day of competition and we are excited for the last five events."
The Panthers sent three swimmers to the A Finals, three in the B Finals, and four in the C Finals. A total of 14 Panthers posted their best times in today's events.
PRELIMINARIES
Senior Adam Mahler kept the record-breaking streak going this morning – shattering the 200 fly school record. With his performance, Mahler secured a spot in the A Finals finishing in 4th-place (1:43.24) and securing an NCAA B Cut.
In the preliminary round of the women's 100 back, Claire Jansen posted a best time of 53.54 – earning a spot in the C Finals. This finish earned her an NCAA B Cut.
Continuing the momentum, four Pitt men claimed a spot in the men's 100 back finals. Krzysztof Radziszewski smashed the school record and secured a spot in the B Finals – finishing in tenth place. Derek Zhang, Stepan Goncharov, and Marcin Goraj all earned a spot in the C Finals with their times of 47.01, 47.03, and 47.57, respectively. All four Panthers earned an NCAA B Cut for their swims.
In the women's 10 breast, Tatum Detwiler posted a best time of 1:00.94 – earning a spot in the B Finals and an NCAA B Cut. Senior Kate Fuhrmann claimed a best time of 1:02.31 securing a spot as an alternate finalist.
Three Panthers secured best times in time trials this morning. Szymon Pytlarczyk posted his best time of 20.09 in the 50 free. Wojciech Dutkowiak (44.31) and Guy Frimis (44.32) claimed their best times in the 100 free.
Pitt competed this morning's preliminary rounds with the women's platform diving competition. Junior Emma Gravgaard placed 17th overall – earning 9 points for the women's team. Sophomore Jess Vega posted strong dives – placing 18th overall with her 208.95 – earning 7 points for Pitt.
FINALS
Tonight's finals started off with the men's 200 fly. Mahler finished in in 7th-place with his time of 1:43.38 – earning an NCAA B Cut.
The night continued with another record broken. Jansen shattered the women's 100 back school record with her time of 52.35 – finishing in 17th overall. Her performance tonight earned her an NCAA B Cut.
The Panthers continued to shine as Radziszewski crushed his 100 back record he set earlier in the prelims. His time of 45.49 secured him 9th-place overall and an NCAA B Cut. Goncharov (46.70), Goraj (46.91), and Zhang (46.92) all finished right behind each other in 21st, 22nd, and 23rd, respectively – all securing an NCAA B Cut.
Detwiler finished strong in the women's 100 breast finals – taking 16th overall with her time of 1:01.32 which earned her an NCAA B Cut.
For the men's team, Crisci and Van Der Laan finished in 5th and 6th place with their times of 51.87 and 51.93, respectively. Both Crisci and Van Der Laan earned an NCAA B Cut for their swims after posting best times. Chen claimed 14th-place overall with his time of 53.41 earning an NCAA B Cut.
The night finished strong with both the men's and women's 400 medley relays crushing the school records. The women's relay of Jansen, Detwiler, Sophie Yendell, and Fuhrmann finished in 8th-place overall with a time of 3:36.54. For the men, Radzizewski, Crisci, Goraj, and Dominic Toledo finished fifth overall with their time of 3:06.70. The men's team earned an NCAA B Cut for their performances tonight.
The ACC Championships continue tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 18 with preliminaries beginning at 9:30 a.m. followed by finals at 5:30 p.m. Tomorrow's events will include the 200 Back, 100 Free, 200 Breast, 1650 Free, 400 Free Relay, and Men's Platform.
The entire 2023 ACC Swimming and Diving Championships, including both prelims and finals, will be broadcast on ACCNX and live scoring is available via the Meet Mobile App.
