PITTSBURGH – Crossover season is here as Pitt's softball and lacrosse teams got their seasons started this past weekend, collecting some big wins alongside the continued success for the Panthers' winter sports. After a weekend full of victories, softball's Sarah Seamans and Dayshanette Harris from the women's basketball team have been named PNC Achievers of the Week.
Graduate student Sarah Seamans helped Pitt softball open the 2023 season with a 3-1 record, including recording an 8-7 victory over No. 21 Auburn, at the NFCA Division I Leadoff Classic Tournament in Clearwater, Fla. Seamans was named to the All-Tournament Team after batting .500 (6-for-12) with a home run, two RBI, three walks and stole three bases in four games. Seamans went a team high 3-for-4 at the plate against the No. 21 Tigers to lead the Panthers to their first non-conference win over a Top 25 team since 2017.
Senior captain Dayshanette Harris finished off a 1-1 week for the Panthers as the team's leading scorer averaging 17.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 1.0 steals while shooting 55.0% from the floor, 66.7% from behind the arc and 91.7% from the charity stripe. Harris finished off the narrow 69-63 road loss to #10 Notre Dame Thursday night with a season-high 20 points and two rebounds while going 6-for-8 from the floor and 7-for-8 from the free throw line. The 20-point effort marked her 10th career game with at least 20 points.
On Sunday in the double overtime road win at Georgia Tech, Harris put the team on her back in the overtime periods as she netted 10 of her 15 points across the two extra quarters. Harris wrapped up the road win with 15 points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals on 5-for-12 shooting and a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line. She has now posted 54 career games scoring in double figures while becoming the 20th member of the Panthers' 1,000 career point club last week.
