PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh Lacrosse program coached by Emily Boissonneault is set to compete in its third season of play with a 17-game regular season schedule in 2024. The Panthers will host nine home games including ACC matchups with Boston College, Louisville, Virginia Tech, North Carolina and Clemson.
"We are excited to introduce our 2024 schedule," said Boissonneault. "We return much of the 2023 team and our student-athletes are eager to put what they have learned into action. With the experience of our returning players, eight new additions and a dynamic coaching staff, we are expecting big things in year three. Our home schedule is filled with talented teams to compete against at Highmark Stadium, providing opportunities in the backyard for local families and lacrosse players."
Pitt opens the season at home against Duquesne (Feb. 9), before going on the road for two games at Arizona State (Feb. 15) and Penn State (Feb. 20). The Panthers will host their first ACC matchup of 2024 on Saturday, Feb. 24 when they face Boston College and then finish up a three-game home stand with nonconference clash vs. Detroit Mercy (Feb. 26) and a conference game against Louisville (Mar. 2).
In March, the Panthers will play five of their seven games on the road, traveling to three ACC venues including Duke (Mar. 9), Virginia (Mar. 16) and Notre Dame (Mar. 30). Pitt will play their second of two March home games against Virginia Tech (Mar. 23).
Five April matchups mark the final month of the regular season including April 2 vs. Central Michigan and April 6 at Syracuse. The Pitt Panthers will conclude the season with three straight home games starting with cross city foe Robert Morris (Apr. 9), and two ACC battles: North Carolina (Apr. 13) and Clemson (Apr. 18).
Pitt will face seven teams that made the 2023 NCAA Tournament. This includes two out of the four national semifinal teams (Syracuse and Boston College) and the 2023 runner up, Boston College. Six of the 2024 opponents on the Panthers' schedule finished in the IWLCA final Coaches Poll of the 2023 season: Boston College (2), Syracuse (3), North Carolina (5), Notre Dame (8), Virginia (15) and Penn State (22).
Home games are back at Highmark Stadium this spring and admission for all fans will be free of charge. Highmark Stadium, completed April 13, 2013, at a cost of $10.2 million, features a FIFA-certified synthetic turf field, a banquet area with a large balcony space overlooking the field and with sensational views of the Pittsburgh skyline, and a 2,200 square foot sports bar with an outstanding selection of food and drink offerings. The home of the Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC professional team and the new home of Pitt Lacrosse boasts a seating capacity of 5,000 people with additional standing room space for games.
Located at Station Square on Pittsburgh's South Shore and overlooking the city's downtown skyline from across the Monongahela River, Highmark Stadium is surrounded by a variety of restaurants, hotels and other amenities that add to the gameday atmosphere.
