PITTSBURGH – Guard Carlton Carrington was named ACC Rookie of the Week for the second consecutive week as announced by the league office Monday afternoon. The Baltimore, Md., native averaged 18.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 5.5 assists per game with .523/.500/.900 shooting splits in wins over Florida Gulf Coast and Jacksonville.
Carrington becomes the first Pitt player to earn conference Rookie of the Week honors in consecutive weeks since DeJuan Blair accomplished that feat in the Big East during the 2007-08 season. He is the 12th Pitt freshman to garner conference Rookie of the Week honors.
In last Monday's win over FGCU, Carrington posted 19 points, four rebounds, and seven assists while going 5-of-9 from the field and 7-of-7 from the foul line. He closed the week with 17 points, three rebounds, and four assists in a 51-point win over Jacksonville. Carrington went 5-of-8 from three-point range with the five threes tied for third most in a game by a Pitt freshman.
Pitt travels to Brooklyn to play in the NIT Season Tip-Off at the Barclays Center this week. The Panthers open with Florida Wednesday, Nov. 22 (9:30 p.m. – ESPNU) and will face either Baylor or Oregon State Friday, Nov. 24.
