
Pitt Earns At-Large Bid To 2023 NCAA Championship; Hosts James Madison Thursday Night

PITTSBURGH – The Pitt men's soccer team earned a spot in the 2023 NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championship for the fifth consecutive season, as announced by the NCAA Monday afternoon. The Panthers were selected as an at-large team for the upcoming tournament and will host an opening round match for the third straight season.
Pitt will host James Madison in the opening round of the tournament on Thursday night at 7:00 pm at Ambrose Urbanic Field. The Dukes also earned an at-large bid after posting an 8-4-5 overall record and a 4-2-3 Sun Belt Conference mark.

Pitt has posted an overall record of 6-6-4 including a 2-3-3 ACC mark so far this season. The Panthers enter the postseason with the No. 1 strength of schedule in the nation along with the No. 30 RPI in the country.
The Panthers have had success in the NCAA Tournament over the past four seasons as they own a 10-3-1 overall record in the postseason tournament while advancing to a pair of College Cups. Pitt has secured at least one NCAA Tournament victory in each of the past four seasons while also being the only team in the nation to advance to three straight Elite Eights.
Last week, Pitt placed three players on All-ACC squads as Filip Mirkovic earned First Team honors for the second straight season after leading the Panthers with nine assists and 25 shots on the year. Defender Jackson Gilman earned Third Team All-ACC honors for the first time in his career after posting a career-high two goals, two assists and six points while helping the Pitt defense secure six clean sheets. Freshman forward Alber Thorsen was named to the ACC All-Freshman Team after notching four goals, two assists and 10 points on 22 shots across 12 games for Pitt.

The winner of Thursday night's matchup in Pittsburgh will advance to the Second Round and take on No. 4 seed Georgetown on the road Sunday.
