THE OPENING TIP
• Pitt hosts Florida Gulf Coast Monday, Nov. 13 at the Petersen Events Center. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. with Wes Durham and Dan Bonner calling the action on ACC Network.
• The Panthers combined to score 189 points (94.5 ppg.) over the first two games of the season, the most points in consecutive games since the 2016-17 season.
• Pitt has compiled a 293-86 (.772) record, including a 170-17 (.909) ledger in non-conference play, in 21 seasons at the Petersen Events Center. The Panthers have won eight consecutive home games.
• Pitt has limited the opposition to just 30.5 percent (40-of-131) shooting from the field in the first two games of the season.
• Carlton Carrington became the first Division I player to record a triple-double in his debut since Notre Dame's Chris Thomas accomplished that feat against Sacred Heart Nov. 16, 2001. He is averaging 18.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 7.0 assists through two games.
• Pitt returns its starting frontcourt from a year ago in Blake Hinson (15.3 ppg., 6.0 rpg., 97 3FG) and Federiko Federiko (6.6 ppg., 5.3 rpg., 1.7 bpg.). The tandem is averaging a combined 27.5 points and 15.5 rebounds per game through two contests.
• Ishmael Leggett recorded the 25th game in the NCAA since the start of the 2010-11 season with 15+ points, 10+ rebounds, 5+ assists, and 4+ steals in the win over Binghamton.
BY THE NUMBERS
• Blake Hinson led the Panthers in scoring (15.3 ppg.), rebounds (6.0 rpg.), and three-pointers (97), while posting 30 double-figure scoring games and nine 20+ point games a year ago. He is one of just 24 players (25 times) in the NCAA since the 1992-93 season to average 15.0 or more points and 6.0 or more rebounds per game with 95 or more made threes. Hinson is averaging 19.5 points and 6.0 rebounds per game with six three-pointers this season.
• Federiko Federiko returns for his junior season after shooting a team-high 66.7 percent (94-of-141) from the field, while also leading the Panthers in offensive rebounds (86), blocks (58), and dunks (39) a year ago. He is averaging 8.0 points, 9.5 rebounds (4.0 orpg.), and 3.5 blocks per game and has four dunks in two contests.
• Zack Austin has made 60 or more threes and blocked 60 or more shots in each of the past two seasons. He and Duke's Shane Battier (2000, 2001) are the only two players to accomplish that feat in multiple seasons.
• Ishmael Leggett has started 71 consecutive games with 45 double figure scoring efforts in that stretch. He has scored 10 or more points in 30 of his past 33 games. Leggett posted career bests in scoring (16.4 ppg.), rebounds (5.8 rpg.), assists (73), steals (42), and three-point field goals (49) last season at Rhode Island. He posted his fourth career double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds in the win over Binghamton.
• Twins Guillermo and Jorge Diaz Graham are averaging a combined 16.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game, while shooting 73.3 percent (11-of-15) from the field, including 60 percent (6-of-10) from three-point range.
• Carlton Carrington has a 4.67:1 assist-to-turnover ratio (14:3) while playing a team-high 56 minutes through the first two games of the season.
• Blake Hinson was named Preseason Second Team All-ACC and the Panthers were picked ninth overall in the projected standings as voted upon by league's media panel.
• The Panthers have four players 6-10 or taller on the roster for just the second time in program history. Pitt's starting lineup features four players 6-5 or taller and has an average height of just under 6-7. Pitt ranks second in the NCAA in average roster height (78.9 in.) according to KenPom.
• Pitt have made 10 or more three-pointers in each of the first two games after setting a school record with 325 three-pointers last season. The Panthers are 14-3 over the past two seasons when making 10 or more threes in a game.
• The Panthers have a +24 rebound margin and have top the 50-rebound mark in both contests this season. Federiko Federiko (9.5 rpg.), Carlton Carrington (7.5 rpg.), Ishmael Leggett (7.0 rpg.), Blake Hinson (6.0 rpg.), and Zack Austin (5.0 rpg.) are each averaging at least 5.0 rebounds per game. Carrington and Leggett have each posted a double-figure rebounding games from the guard position this season.
• Monday's contest with Florida Gulf Coast is the start of three consecutive games against opponents from the state of Florida. The last time the Panthers faced three or more Florida teams was during the 1948-49 season when they played consecutive doubleheaders against Miami and Florida.
PANTHR SPOTLIGHTS
• Ishmael Leggett (18/11/5/4 vs. Binghamton - 11/10/23) became the first Panther since Kellii Taylor (15/10/6/4 vs. Georgetown - 1/27/97) to record 15+ points, 10+ rebounds, 5+ assists, and 4+ steals in a game
• Blake Hinson has made at least one three-pointer in 15 consecutive games and in 36 of 38 games as a Panther. He is 103-of-270 (.381) from three-point range at Pitt.
• Federiko Federiko is the leading returning shot blocker in the ACC (14th nationally). He has seven blocks through two games and now has 65 blocks in 37 games at Pitt (1.76 bpg.).
