
Panthers Post 96-60 Win Over UPJ in Exhibition Play

PITTSBURGH – Pitt came out strong in its final tune-up for the regular season with a 96-60 win over Pitt-Johnstown Wednesday evening at the Petersen Events Center. Four Panthers scored in double figures as the Panthers extended their exhibition game win streak to 40 games.
Freshman Carlton Carrington paced the Panthers with 13 points, seven rebounds and six assists, while Blake Hinson added 12 points. Ishmael Leggett delivered 12 points and four rebounds with Jorge Diaz Graham coming off the bench for 10 points.
Pitt jumped out to a 13-3 lead by the opening media timeout as Leggett scored six points in the opening four minutes of action. The Panthers didn't look back after the fast start leading by as many as 23 and entering the halftime break with a 48-29 advantage.
Hinson and Leggett each scored nine points in the opening half, while Carrington posted eight points, three rebounds, and two assists before intermission. All nine players who saw action in the first half scored as the Panthers shot 54.5 percent (18-of-33) from the field, including 6-of-15 (.400) from three-point range.
Pitt led by as much as 41 in the second half as contributions came in steady waves throughout the roster. Michael Hueitt, Jr. knocked down three three-point field goals, while Guillermo Diaz Graham, William Jeffress, and Jaland Lowe each had moments of impressive play after halftime.
The Panthers went 15-of-16 from the foul line in the second half to help offset sub-40 percent shooting from the floor.
UPJ made seven three-pointers on the night and got double-figure scoring efforts from Andrew Shull (16), Ryan Smith (13), and Gavin Headings (10).

BIG ADVANTAGE ON THE BOARDS
The Panthers dominated the glass with a 53-28 edge on the backboards with Guillermo Diaz Graham and Jeffress each grabbing eight boards. Jeffress pulled down five of the Panthers' 18 offensive rebounds.
CRAZY EIGHTS
Guillermo Diaz Graham, Jeffress, Lowe, and Zack Austin just missed out on double figures with each Panther finishing with eight points.
