
Washington, Burton Named PNC Achievers of the Week

PITTSBURGH – Sidney Washington from Gymnastics and Jamarius Burton from Men's Basketball have been named PNC Achievers of the Week after some stellar performances to ring in the new year.
Sophomore Sidney Washington set a new personal record with a score of 9.875 – earning the first-place title in vault Friday night at the Keystone Classic against UPenn, Penn State, and Temple. To finish the competition, Washington led the event on floor and earned a career-high score of 9.900 for her routine. Her routine on floor gave the team their final push to win overall. This was a new program opening record (195.950) as they broke their previous home opening score of 192.900.
Graduate guard Jamarius Burton averaged 21.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game, while shooting 14-of-30 (.467) from the field and 12-of-13 (.923) from the foul line as the Panthers split games against Clemson and No. 11 Virginia. The Charlotte, N.C., native scored a game-high 28 points to go along with six rebounds and four assists in a hard fought 75-74 loss against Clemson He went 9-of-16 from the field, including 3-of-6 from three-point range, and 7-of-8 from the foul line in the contest. Burton helped lead the Panthers to a 68-65 win over No. 11 Virginia in the opening game of the week finishing with 15 points, four rebounds and a pair of assists.
Burton has scored 20 or more points in three of Pitt's five ACC games and is now averaging 21.4 points per game on 58.0 percent shooting from the field in league play.
