
Panthers Conclude Play at World Championships; Boissonneault Leads Canada to Silver Medal Finish

TOWSON, MARYLAND – The Panther contingent at the 2022 World Lacrosse Women's World Championships had a successful tournament in Towson, Md., over the last two weeks. Head Coach Emily Boissonneault and Team Canada grabbed a silver medal with a second-place finish after falling to the United States in the final on Saturday, July 9.
Canada went 3-1 in pool play and then defeated Puerto Rico, the Czech Republic and England en route to their finals appearance and rematch from pool play against the US. Boissonneault started all eight games for the red and white and contributed seven ground balls and five caused turnovers in addition to a coast-to-coast, highlight-reel goal.
Abby Thorne came off the bench in the first game for Australia and made an immediate impact before finding her place in the starting lineup the remaining seven games. The Australian team finished just outside of the medals, losing to England, 8-7 in three overtimes, in the bronze medal game. Thorne contributed in her first senior team tournament with six ground balls, one draw control and four caused turnovers.
In their first world championship appearance, the Haudenosaunee proudly posted an eighth place finish. Allyson Trice played in and started all eight games, recording nine ground balls, eight draw controls and two caused turnovers. The Haudenosaunee finished 3-1 in pool play and upset fifth-seeded Scotland in the round of 16 to advance to the quarterfinals.
The 2022 version of the World Championships was the largest of its kind, featuring 29 nations. The United States captured their ninth title and fourth in a row.
