PITTSBURGH—Pitt junior defensive tackle Calijah Kancey's national reputation continues to rise as he has been named a first team All-American by Athlon Sports.
Kancey's preseason recognition is well earned. He is coming off an outstanding 2021 campaign that witnessed him lead the Panthers in tackles for loss (13) and rank second in sacks (seven). That production earned him first-team All-ACC and third-team Associated Press All-America honors as a sophomore, and he appears poised for even greater heights this year.
Athlon described the 6-foot, 275-pounder as "unblockable in bursts."
Kancey leads a heralded Pitt defensive front rated fourth nationally in Athlon's unit rankings. The Panthers' defensive line trails only top-rated Clemson, Alabama and Georgia on that list.
In Athlon's team rankings, Pitt checks in at No. 22 nationally and is picked to finish second in the ACC's Coastal Division.
Kancey is one of 15 returning starters for the Panthers, who are coming off an 11-3 ACC championship season.
Pitt football season tickets, which start at just $180, are currently on sale at PittsburghPanthers.com. For pricing, seating maps, season ticket holder benefits and more, click here or call (800) 643-7488.
