PITTSBURGH – The Pitt Basketball roster for the 2022-23 season continues to build with the official signing of 6-4 combo guard Cashius McNeilly Friday afternoon.
"Cashius is a talented guard who brings competitiveness, shooting and play making abilities to our backcourt rotation," said head coach Jeff Capel. "He has the size, strength and skill set to play multiple positions on the perimeter and can impact a game on both ends of the floor. The start of his college career was slowed by an injury and the pandemic, so I know he is eager to get back out on the floor and compete. We look forward to him joining our program this summer."
McNeilly, a top-150 recruit out of high school, began his college career at Texas A&M. He missed his freshman year with a foot injury, before sitting out the 2020-21 campaign due to COVID-19 concerns. He transferred to TCU before ending up at Northern Oklahoma in January of 2022. He averaged 10.0 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game, while shooting 44 percent from three-point range in helping guide the Mavericks to the OCAC Regular Season Championship and an NJCAA Regional appearance.
He knocked down five three-point field goals and finished with 22 points in his first game with Northern Oklahoma. McNeilly scored in double-figures in seven of 12 games played last season.
A native of Scarborough, Ontario, Canada, McNeilly has been a staple with Team Canada's youth program. He averaged 10.9 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.0 assists and shot 50 percent from three-point range in helping Canada to a bronze medal at the FIBA U17 World Cup in Argentina in 2018. McNeilly also participating in the 2019 Basketball Without Borders Global Camp in Charlotte, N.C. and won MVP honors at the 2016 Under Armour Next game in Brooklyn.
McNeilly joins a Pitt recruiting class that features Northern Oklahoma teammate Fede Federiko along with transfers Nelly Cummings (Colgate), Greg Elliott (Marquette), Blake Hinson (Mississippi/Iowa State) and incoming freshman Guillermo Diaz Graham and Jorge Diaz Graham.
The Panthers return there two leading scorers from a year ago in All-ACC Honorable Mention selection John Hugley (14.8 ppg., 7.9 rpg.) and Jamarius Burton (12.4 ppg., 1,003 career points.). Nike Sibande also returns after missing last season due to the knee injury. He has scored 1,570 points and made 203 three-point field goals in his career.
Season tickets start as low as $280 with early renewals and new season ticket holders having the opportunity to take advantage of the four-month payment plan. Fans can secure new season tickets HERE.
