Whaley, Corcoran Named Pitt Student-Athletes of the Week

PITTSBURGH – Yvonne Whaley of softball and Billy Corcoran of baseball were named the Pitt Student-Athletes of the Week following impressive performances in their respective sports.
Whaley batted .333 with two runs, a walk and a stolen base against No. 11/13 Duke this past weekend. The Houston, Texas, native finished the season with a .344 batting average, recording 45 hits, four doubles, 10 walks, eight stolen bases, 21 runs and a .387 on-base percentage. She became the first Pitt player since Giorgiana Zeremenko (2018) to hit over .340 for the season. Her conference batting average of .358 finished 14th in the league while also ranking 16th in hits (24) in conference play.
On the mound, Corcoran cliched a program record fourth ACC home series victory in a 3-2 win over Duke Sunday. Corcoran picked up his seventh win of the season and went six innings with one run, six hits, one walk and eight strikeouts. He's gone at least six innings in all 11 appearances this season and allowed just three walks in his last seven starts with a combined 47 strikeouts in 47 innings pitched.
