Pittsburgh – Graduate students Paulina DiFatta and Paige Petty were named to the West/Midwest All-Region Second Team, as was announced by the Inside Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association [IWLCA], Thursday afternoon.
The IWLCA has honored 128 student-athletes in Division I with a selection to one of the All-Region teams for 2022. These student-athletes are now eligible to be named to a national IWLCA All-American team. The IWLCA will announce the 2022 All-American teams on May 26.
This is the first regional honor for DiFatta. The Panther goalkeeper was also a Second Team All-ACC selection this season and set the ACC Championship records for saves in a tournament (37) and saves in a single game (19). She leads the ACC in saves (198), saves per game (10.42), ground balls (51) and ground balls per game (2.68). DiFata's 198 saves have her sitting at third in the country in the category and she finishes her career with 661.
Petty has earned her fourth all-region selection (no teams were announced in 2020) after being named to the South Region First Team twice (2021 & 2018) and Second Team once (2019). She was named a USA Lacrosse Magazine All-American Honorable Mention earlier this week and also earned a spot on the All-ACC Second Team this season. Petty led the Panthers in goals (43), points (54), free position goals (15), and draw controls (71). She previously finished her time at Virginia Tech ranked among the program leaders in points scored (T-1st - 227), goals (1st - 204) and draw controls (4th - 241), while starting 62 of 63 career games. Petty went out strong, finishing her career recording a point in all 80 contests played and scoring in her final 47 games.
