PITTSBURGH - The University of Pittsburgh football program concluded spring drills on Saturday afternoon at Heinz Field with the 2022 Blue-Gold Spring Game presented by PNC Bank, with the Gold team emerging with a 10-7 victory in a contest that came down to the final play.
Coming off the team's first Atlantic Coast Conference championship in 2021, Pitt's Spring Game was the first opportunity for fans to see this year's version of the team.
With a roster that includes several returning All-ACC players and some exciting new additions, the Panthers are once again favored to contend in the ACC - but the initial excitement for the upcoming season surrounds the opening game against West Virginia as the Backyard Brawl rivalry will help kickoff the 2022 college football season on Thursday, Sept. 1 at Heinz Field.
Competing to replace Heisman Trophy finalist Kenny Pickett as the starting quarterback for the Panthers this fall, Kedon Slovis and Nick Patti both displayed quality passing at times on Saturday.
With rosters for the game jumbled, however, the defenses held a significant advantage and were on top for most of the day.
Pitt's Ed Conway Award winners as the most improved players of spring ball - running back Daniel Carter and linebacker Bangally Kamara - were each impressive as well. Carter played for both teams and scored the only two touchdowns of the contest, while Kamara record 1.5 sacks.
An early 41-yard field goal by Ben Sauls proved to be decisive for the Gold squad after Patti found transfer receiver Konata Mumpfield for a 55-yard gain on the opening play of the game.
Season tickets are currently available at PittsburghPanthers.com and start at just $180. Fans have the option to pay in full or take advantage of an interest-free monthly payment plan. For pricing, seating maps, season ticket holder benefits and more, click here or call (800) 643-7488.
