Pitt Adds Transfer Forward Blake Hinson

PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh men's basketball program continued to the reshape its roster for the 2022-23 season with the signing of transfer Blake Hinson. The 6-7, 230-pound forward averaged 9.1 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game, while starting 58 of 60 games his first two seasons at Ole Miss.
"Blake is a talented forward who plays with a lot of confidence," said head coach Jeff Capel. "We like his competitiveness, ability to shoot the ball with range and his overall desire help impact winning. His skill set combined with his size and strength enable him to play multiple positions on the floor and present matchups problems on offense. We are excited to welcome him to our program and look forward to aiding in his continued development."
A Deltona, Fla., native averaged 10.1 points and 4.6 rebounds with 45 three-point field goals as a sophomore in 2019-20. He scored in double-figures 14 times and had five or more rebounds in a game on 13 occasions. Hinson finished the season 45-of-141 (.319) from three-point range and 45-of-64 (.703) from the free throw line.
Hinson transferred to Iowa State prior to the 2020-21 season but did not play a game there before entering the transfer portal prior to this past season. He has accumulated 548 points, 223 rebounds and 91 three-point field goals in his career and will have two seasons of eligibility remaining.
A four-start prospect out of high school, Hinson was rated as the nation's No. 102 player by Rivals after averaging 15 points, six rebounds and two steals per game at Sunrise Christian Academy (Kan.) as a senior. He led Deltona to the school's first state Final Four appearance, while averaging 29.3 points per game and earning all-region honors as a junior in Florida.
Hinson joins a frontcourt headlined by 2022 Honorable Mention All-ACC selection John Hugley as well as wings William Jeffress and Nate Santos. Hugley was among the top post players in the ACC last season, averaging 14.8 points and 7.9 rebounds per game. The sophomore forward finished the year with 22 double-figure scoring games, including eight games with 20+ points, and nine double-doubles.
Pitt's backcourt features three 1,000-point scorers in Jamarius Burton (1,003), Nelly Cummings (1,112) and Nike Sibande (1,560). The trio has combined for 3,675 points and 422 three-point field goals in their careers.
