
Panthers Fall 68-62 to Georgia Tech

PITTSBURGH -- Mouhamadou Gueye and John Hugley combined for 45 points and 23 rebounds but it wasn't enough as Pitt dropped a 68-62 decision to Georgia Tech Saturday night at the Petersen Events Center. Georgia Tech capitalized on 16 Pitt turnovers and scored an opponent season-high 38 points in the paint to snap the Panthers three-game ACC win streak.
Michael Devoe scored a team-high 22 points, including a dagger three-point field goal with 2:03 remaining, to lead the Yellow Jackets. Pitt used a 14-0 run to get to within 63-59 with just over two minutes left to play. Georgia Tech broke pressure with a long pass over the top and Devoe knocked down his second three of the night to end the Pitt run and stop the comeback attempt.
Gueye scored a career-high 27 points and added 12 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the season. He went 10-of-15 from the field and 5-of-6 from the foul line while also grabbing a season-best five offensive rebounds.
Hugley also posted a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds. The Cleveland, Ohio native converted 7-of-10 field goal attempts and was 4-of-6 from the foul line. Pitt also recieved a double-figure scoring effort from Ithiel Horton, who knocked down three three-point field goals and finished with 10 points
Georgia Tech received a big lift on the interior from Rodney Howard and Jordan Usher. Howard posted 14 points and seven rebounds before fouling out, while Usher filled the stat sheet with 10 points, eight rebounds, five assists and four steals.
The Yellow Jackets used a 7-0 run at the end of the first half to take a 37-28 lead into halftime. Pitt scored the first six points of the second half to cut the deficit to three before Georgia Tech went on a 21-7 run to take control of the game.
Pitt returns to action Tuesday, Feb. 22 at home against Miami. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. on the ACC Network.
