PITTSBURGH – Junior forward Blake Hinson was named ACC Co-Player of the Week as announced by the league office Tuesday afternoon. Hinson shared this week's honors with Miami's Isaiah Wong.
Hinson recorded his fourth double-double with 25 points and a career-high matching 13 rebounds in an 84-82 road win at Syracuse. The Deltona, Fla., native had 14 points and eight rebounds in the second half of play and helped seal the Panthers win with a steal with seven seconds remaining and Pitt leading by one. After converting one of two free throws with six seconds remaining, he combined with Nelly Cummings to force a heavily contested final attempt by Syracuse that failed to reach the rim.
Hinson is one of just two players in the ACC averaging 17+ points and 7+ rebounds, while shooting 50.0 percent or better from the field. He leads the Panthers in scoring (17.2 ppg.), rebounds (7.4 rpg.), double-doubles (4), double-figure scoring games (12), 20+ point games (4), free throws made (48), field goals made (75) and steals (13).
Pitt, 9-4 overall and 2-0 in the ACC, returns to action Friday, Dec. 30 in its ACC home opener against No. 25 North Carolina (9-4, 1-1 ACC). Tipoff is set for 12 p.m. with Pitt Athletics also hosting a watch party following the game for the Pitt-UCLA matchup in the Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl.
