
Buzzerio, Cummings Named PNC Achievers of the Week

PITTSBURGH – Volleyball's Courtney Buzzerio and Nelly Cummings from Men's Basketball have been named PNC Achievers of the Week after another strong week of results from the Panthers.
Buzzerio led the Panthers to the NCAA National Semifinals for the second season in a row, making 37 kills in Pitt's victories over Florida and at Wisconsin. She made the match-winning kill in Pitt's epic five-set victory over No. 1 seeded Wisconsin, one of her 18 kills on the night. She currently leads all players remaining in the NCAA Tournament with 69 kills, 4.60 kills/set on .326 hitting.
Buzzerio and the Panthers continue their NCAA Tournament run at this Thursday at approx. 9:30 ET in the National Semifinal against No. 1 seed Louisville. The match will be broadcast on ESPN 30 minutes following the conclusion of the other Final Four match, Texas vs. San Diego.
Cummings opened the week with an 18-point, 5-assist effort in a one-point loss at Vanderbilt. He went 6-of-9 from the field, including 3-of-6 from three-point range, and hit a 16-foot jumper from the right wing to give Pitt a one-point lead with 15 seconds remaining in the game. The Midland, Pa., native capped the week with a season-high 24 points to go along with six rebounds, five assists and four steals in a 25-point win over Sacred Heart. He matched a career high with six three-point field goals. He also outscored the Pioneers 14-12 over the final 13-minutes of play as Pitt secured its seventh win over the season.
Cummings made all five free throws on the week and is now 19-of-19 from the free throw line this season.
