PITTSBURGH – University of Pittsburgh senior diver Dylan Reed, a three-time NCAA Championship qualifier, has received an invitation to the 2022-23 USA Diving High Performance Squad. Reed is the first member of the Pitt diving program to garner this invitation.
The High-Performance Squad is comprised of divers who most exhibit the potential, skill, and determination to become future U.S. Olympic Team members. Being a High-Performance Squad member does not automatically qualify one for international competitions or the Olympics.
"Being a member of Team USA is something that high school me would have dreamed of, and to make that dream come true means the world to me," said Reed. "I am extremely excited to see where this opportunity takes me in the next couple of years. I not only take this accomplishment with pride, but determination, strength, and knowledge."
A native of McLean, Va., Reed was an NCAA qualifier in the 1-meter, 3-meter, and platform, while also being an ACC Bronze Medalist in the 1-meter last season. During the 2021-22 regular season, Reed posted three first place finishes in the 1-meter and a pair of 3-meter top finishes as a junior.
"I would not be where I am today without the coaches that have, day in and day out, molded me to be the athlete and person that I am today," said Reed. "None of this is possible without their guidance and commitment."
In 2020-21, Reed was an NCAA qualifier in the 1-meter, won five events and was named to the CSCAA Scholar All-American First Team. Reed placed first in four events during the regular season, including sweeping the springboards against Ohio State, as a freshman.
"I am incredibly proud of the progress Dylan has made since arriving at Pitt," said diving head coach Katie Kasprzak. "Over the past three years despite injuries, Dylan has grown tremendously in and out of the pool. He has taken full advantage of the opportunities we provide our student-athletes and as a result he is thriving. Not only has his diving improved greatly, but he is also the SAAC President and has a phenomenal technology internship set up with Deloitte for the summer. Dylan's success in and out of the pool is a huge testament to the amazing staff and support we provide our student-athletes."
"This is a fantastic accomplishment for Dylan and our program," said head coach Chase Kreitler. "Our program has had an NCAA Champion diver, Olympic Trials Finalist, and many All-Americans, but Dylan is the first USA Diving National Team member that we've had in our diving program. Dylan does a fantastic job of balancing academics and diving at the highest level and is a great example of the student-athletes we are developing here at Pitt. Katie has done a phenomenal job helping Dylan grow as a diver and as a person. We are looking forward to his continued success as a High Performance Squad member!"
