ATLANTA – The Pitt men's swimming and diving team dominated Boston College, 230-70, and fell to Georgia Tech, 131-169, during an ACC matchup at the McAuley Aquatic Center early Saturday afternoon.
The men's team won 15 of 16 events against Boston College with 13 first and second place finishes while winning five events against Georgia Tech.
"Our men's medley relays continue to be strong at this meet," said head coach Chase Kreitler. "We are looking forward to seeing how far we can take them this year. Our team is led by a hard-working group of upperclassmen who have bought into a vision to train hard and to take the program to the next level. They really want to elevate our program and I am excited to see that work pay off in championship season. Jerry Chen and Adam Mahler both swam great today picking up two wins each."
The Panthers started the meet off strong, claiming first, third and fourth place in the 200-yard medley relay. The relay team of Krzysztof Radziszewski, Cooper Van der Laan, Marcin Goraj and Flynn Crisci finished first overall with a time of 1:29.28.
Jerry Chen kept the momentum going for the Panthers, finishing first overall in the 100-yard breaststroke (53.77), qualifying for an NCAA B time, and first in the 200-yard breaststroke (1:59.03).
Adam Mahler and Goraj also had impressive individual performances for the Panthers. Mahler took home first in the 200-yard butterfly (1:48.04) and tied for first with Goraj in the 100-yard butterfly (49.14). Goraj also finished second overall in both the 200-yard freestyle (1:38.10) and 200-yard backstroke (1:45.95).
Other top finishes for the men include Javier Zorzano taking second overall in the 200-yard individual medley (1:50.07) and two separate Panther relay teams taking second and third in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The team of Crisci, Dominic Toledo, Guy Frimis, and Wojciech Dutkowiak finished behind Georgia Tech with the time of 3:02.71. The other relay team of Radziszewski, Mahler, Austin Lane and Derek Zhang clocked in at 3:05.61.
Cameron Cash (370.40), Dylan Reed (342.20), and Josh Parquet (307.00) finished 2-3-4 in the 1-meter, respectively. The diving trio sustained their excellence into the 3-meter event, as Reed took second place (408.40) and Cash finished right behind in third place (407.00).
"The men's Diving Team had a solid meet against great competition," said head diving coach Katie Kasprzak. "Going over 400 points so early in the season holds us in great stead as we work towards the ACC and NCAA meets. In addition, Dylan, Cam and Josh all got their NCAA Zone cut, showing great depth in the team."
The Pitt men's and women's diving teams are back in action Friday, November 11-12, as the Panthers will host George Washington at Trees Pool. The men's and women's swimming teams will also host Georgia Washington Nov. 18-19.
