PITTSBURGH – The Pitt men's swimming and diving team won 15 of 19 events to defeat George Washington, 241-113, early Saturday afternoon at Trees Pool.
"Our team did a great job racing tough and executing details well to win close races," said head coach Chase Kreitler. "This was a good chance for many of our guys to mix up some events and race things they haven't gotten to so far this year. Overall, our group has been training really well and are pretty tired coming out of a hard training block. They are excited to get some rest and race in Minnesota right after Thanksgiving."
The Panthers sustained their dominance into the second day of competition, kicking off the meet by winning the winning the 200-yard medley relay. The team of Krzysztof Radziszewski, Cooper Van der Laan, Marcin Goraj and Flynn Crisci took the top of the podium with a time of 1:29.06.
Other notable finishes include Wojciech Dutkowiak claiming second place in the 1000-yard freestyle (9:32.43). Jerry Chen (first, 1:51.21) and Crisci (third, 1:53.51) both posted strong swims in the 200-yard individual medley.
After sweeping the 100-yard breaststroke on Friday, the second sweep of the meet came in the 200-yard freestyle. Guy Frimis (1:40.59), Dutkowiak (1:40.75) and Goraj (1:42.67) finished first, second and third, respectively, to add 16 point to the Panthers total.
Adam Mahler (200-yard butterfly; 1:49.37) and Radziszewski (100-yard backstroke; 48.78) picked up two more top finishes before the men's third event sweep in the 200-yard breaststroke. Chen (1:58.70), Van der Laan (2:01.32) and Nick Short (2:07.70) all finished 1-2-3 in the event.
The relay team of Frimis, Toledo, Crisci, and Goraj took first in the 400-yard freestyle (3:02.04) to cap off the meet.
The Pitt men's and women's swimming are back in action Nov. 30-Dec. 3 as the Panthers travel to Minneapolis, Minn., to compete in the Minnesota Invite.
