PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh Lacrosse program opens its inaugural season in February under head coach Emily Boissonneault. The Panthers will host Duquesne Feb. 11 at 5 p.m. at Highmark Stadium in the first NCAA competition in program history.
"We are excited to announce the schedule for the inaugural season of Pitt Lacrosse," said Boissonneault. "We start the season against a city opponent and our neighbors, Duquesne, in what is going to be an incredible day for local lacrosse fans to come see what our team has to offer. We will host 11 games at Highmark Stadium, including contests against two of teams in last year's final four. We couldn't be more thrilled to get the 2022 season started!"
Pitt will also host Siena (Feb. 18 – 5 p.m.) and St. Bonaventure (Feb. 20 – 12 p.m.) before welcoming North Carolina to Highmark Stadium for its first ACC competition Thursday, Feb. 24 (4 p.m.). The Panthers cap off the first month of the season with a road trip to Canisius (Feb. 27 – 12 p.m.).
The March schedule features home games against Virginia Tech (March 5 – 1 p.m.), Binghamton (March 13 – 1 p.m.), Niagara (March 21 – 5 p.m.), defending National Champion Boston College (March 26 – 1 p.m.) and Akron (March 28 – 5 p.m.) along with road games at Duke (March 10 – 6 p.m.) and Virginia (March 18 – 5 p.m.).
The Panthers play three of their final five games of the season on the road with trips to NCAA runner-up Syracuse (April 2 – 12 p.m.), Penn State (April 12 – 4 p.m.) and Notre Dame (April 16 – 12 p.m.) slotted around home tilts with Louisville (April 9 – 12 p.m.) and a season finale with George Mason (April 19 – 5 p.m.).
Three of Pitt's contests – vs. North Carolina, at Duke, and at Syracuse – are scheduled to be broadcast on the ACC Network.
Pitt will compete against six teams that made the 2021 NCAA Tournament. This includes three out of four final four teams (North Carolina, Syracuse, Boston College) and the 2021 national champions, Boston College. Eight 2022 opponents on the Panthers' schedule finished in the IWLCA final Coaches Poll of the 2021 season: Boston College (1), Syracuse (2), North Carolina (3), Notre Dame (6), Duke (8), Virginia (11), Penn State (T-23) and Louisville (25).
Admission for all fans at Highmark Stadium is free of charge during the inaugural season of Pitt Lacrosse.
