
Panthers Fall in Road Contest at Syracuse

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Pitt men's basketball team fell, 77-61, at the Carrier Dome in an Atlantic Coast Conference contest Tuesday evening.
Three Panthers scored 14 points, led by graduate student Mouhamadou Gueye who recorded 10 boards, four assists and two steals. Sophomore Femi Odukale added three assists and two steals to his 14 point outing while senior Jamarius Burton was shot 50% from the field (5-10).
Sophomore John Hugley was limited to eight points on 1-of-6 shooting and gathered eight rebounds a game after his 32 point, 13 rebound performance against Boston College.
After 23 combined points through the first 12 minutes of action, both teams racked up 25 points in the ensuing five and a half minutes of play and the Orange led 25-24 with just over six minutes left in the first half. Pitt (6-10, 1-4 ACC) saw itself down 19-11 at one point during the barrage of scoring but orchestrated a 13-2 run and eventually led 32-27 into the final media timeout of the first half.
Syracuse (8-8, 2-3 ACC) ended the half scoring eight of the final 10 points and led 35-34 at the break. Both teams connected with five made threes each while Pitt led 16-13 in the rebounding battle.
Pitt struggled to score in the second half, totaling three points through the first seven minutes of play. The Orange led by double-digits from the 15:47 mark and on and won by 16, 77-61.
After shooting 50% (13-26) in the first half, Pitt shot just 23.8% (5-21) in the second for game total of 38.3% (18-47). The Panthers struggled from the line, shooting 69.2% (18-26) after tying a season-high 82.1% clip against Boston College.
Pitt returns home and hosts Louisville Saturday, Jan. 15 at 4 p.m. Live coverage will be held on the ACC Network.
