No. 3 Pitt Falls at No. 19 Akron

AKRON, Ohio – The No. 3 Pitt men's soccer team fell, 2-1, to No. 19 Akron Monday night at FirstEnergy Stadium.
NEWS & NOTES
Pitt couldn't find its offensive rhythm early on, but struck two powerful shots on net via freshman sophomore Bertin Jacquesson and graduate student Alexander Dexter in the 33rd and 34th minute, both of which were saved by Zips goalkeeper Will Meyer.
The Zips led, 9-5, in shots while both teams had two corner kicks through the first 45 minutes.
The Panthers came out aggressive in the second half, recording five shots in the second half's first 12 minutes. Pitt was able to connect with the back of the net in the 59th minute, as Mirkovic sent a cross from right to left to Crivello, who put a head on the ball and scored the equalizing goal.
Akron broke the tie 17 minutes later (76'), as Diogo Pacheco received a cross from the corner and scored with his right foot from two yards out. The Zips held off the Panther attack in the remaining 14 minutes.
The match totaled five yellow cards, including three from the Panthers.
Pitt returns to action Friday, Sept. 10 at home with its conference opener against nationally ranked North Carolina. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m. on the ACCNX.

- The loss is the second consecutive on the road for the Panthers. Pitt moves to 2-2 overall for the season.
- Junior Raphaël Crivello scored the first goal of his career in the 59th minute. Sophomore Filip Mirkovic earned an assist, his third of the season and second in as many games.
- The Panthers outshot the Zips 15-12, including a 10-3 advantage in the second half.
