9/30/2021 1:25:00 PM | Men's Soccer
PITTSBURGH – Men's Soccer graduate student goalkeeper Nico Campuzano was named a candidate for the 2021 Senior CLASS Award today.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior or graduate-student and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character, and competition.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
A native of Cantabria, Spain, Campuzano is in his second year with the Panthers after breaking the single-season school record for wins (16) in goal in Pitt's historic College Cup run last season. Campuzano finished third in the country in saves (66) and sixth in shutouts (6) a year ago.
Campuzano has helped lead a Panther team to a 5-3 record this season while playing one of the toughest schedules in the country. He has 20 saves and four shutouts in 2021 and has registered three matches with four saves. Campuzano has been a big factor in Pitt's current 13-match win streak at home, totaling 14 saves in his eight matches played at Ambrose Uranic Field in his two seasons thus far at Pitt.
The goalie has earned numerous awards while at Pitt, including 2020 United Soccer Coaches First Team All-South Region, All-ACC First Team, All-ACC Tournament Team and All-ACC Academic Team.
Each of the two candidate classes will be narrowed to 10 finalists later in the season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one male candidate and one female candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character, and competition.
The Senior CLASS Award winners will be announced during the 2021 NCAA Men's and Women's College Cup® championships in December.
