Champagnie Signs Two-Way Deal With Toronto Raptors
7/30/2021 1:23:00 AM | Men's Basketball
PITTSBURGH – Pitt's Justin Champagnie will sign a two-way deal with the Toronto Raptors according to league sources. Champagnie, an Honorable Mention All-America honoree last season, will look to join fellow Pitt products Steven Adams (Memphis), Cameron Johnson (Phoenix) and Brad Wanamaker (Golden State) on an NBA roster for the 2021-22 season.
Two-way contracts allow for a player to play for both the NBA and the G League while being under the control of an NBA franchise for the duration of the season. These contracts are limited to two per team and can only be given to players with less than four years of NBA experience. Players on a two-way contract do not count against an NBA team's 15-man roster.
Champagnie filled the stat sheet as a sophomore finishing second in the league in scoring (18.0 ppg.) and first in rebounds (11.1 rpg.), while becoming the first Pitt player to earn First Team All-ACC accolades. The 6-6 forward also etched his name in the Pitt record books next to Panther legends Don Hennon, Billy Knight, Larry Harris, Sam Clancy, Clyde Vaughan, Charles Smith, Sam Young and DeJuan Blair.
The Brooklyn native burst onto the national scene with a 20-point, 20-rebound game at Northwestern Dec. 9, joining NBA elites Tim Duncan, Kevin Durant and Ben Simmons as the only major conference players in the past 25 seasons with a 20/20 game while playing all 40 minutes.
