PITTSBURGH – The Pitt track & field teams had two student-athletes named to the 2021 Outdoor Track & Field All-ACC Academic Team as announced by the league office Thursday morning. Eddita Pessima and Felix Wolter each earned the outdoor recognition for the first time in their Pitt careers after earning the same distinction indoors.
It marked the fourth straight outdoor season that the Panthers had at least two representatives on the Academic Team while Pessima and Wolter became the 20th and 21st outdoor ACC Academic Team selections for the Panthers.
Pessima, a psychology major with a 3.3 cumulative GPA, wrapped up another impressive outdoor campaign for the Panthers as she earned Second Team All-ACC honors in the 400m hurdles as she posted a fifth place finish at the ACC Outdoor Championships. She crossed the finish line with a new personal record time of 58.72 seconds, the fifth fastest time in program history. At the NCAA East Preliminary Round, Pessima was able to advance to the quarterfinals in the 100m hurdles and 400m hurdles. Her time of 13.19 seconds in the 100m hurdle prelims marked a new personal best and was the second fastest in program history. She ended the season with a pair of 23rd place finishes in the quarterfinals in the 100m hurdles and 400m hurdles.
Wolter, a computer science major with a 3.65 cumulative GPA, finished off his first outdoor campaign with a school record in the decathlon. The graduate transfer posted a monster debut in the decathlon at the Virginia Challenge as he posted a score of 7,950 points, breaking the previous school record by 1,066 points. Wolter was not able to compete in the NCAA's due to injury but was still able to post the fourth best score in the nation in the event. At the ACC Outdoor Championships, Wolter ran the opening leg of the Panthers' 4x400m relay squad who posted a third place finish and earned Second Team All-ACC honors. The squad posted a time of 3:07.59, the seventh fastest time in program history.
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released in July.
