PITTSBURGH – University of Pittsburgh standout forward Justin Champagnie was invited to participate in the NBA Draft Combine June 21-27 at the Wintrust Arena and Marriott Marquis in Chicago, Ill., as announced Tuesday afternoon by the league.
"I am excited about this next step in my journey," said Champagnie. "The combine will be a great opportunity to test myself against other players in this draft class and put my hard work on display for all the teams in attendance. I was able to elevate my play this season at Pitt and work my way into the NBA Draft. I have continued to put in the work in preparation for this opportunity and look forward to making the most of it."
Champagnie, an AP Honorable Mention All-America and First Team All-ACC selection as a sophomore, is one of 69 players selected to participate in 5-on-5 games, strength and agility testing, shooting drills, measurements and other on-court evaluations.
The Brooklyn native established himself as one of the top performers in the country during a season unlike any other in program history in 2020-21. The 6-6 forward became the first Pitt player to earn First Team All-ACC honors as he finished second in the league in scoring (18.0 ppg.) and first in rebounds (11.1 rpg.).
Champagnie posted an ACC-best 14 double-double, including eight games with at least 20 points and 10 rebounds. He scored in double figures in all 20 games played and had a pair of 20/20 games for the Panthers.
The 6-6 forward returned from a knee injury in mid-January to post a pair of signature games. He had 24 points and 16 rebounds in a home win over Syracuse Jan. 16 before posting 31 points, 14 rebounds and five blocks in a home win over Duke. He was 12-of-15 from the field, including 4-of-7 from the foul line, against the Blue Devils.
Champagnie posted consecutive 20/20 games at Northwestern and against Gardner-Webb to join Blake Griffin (Oklahoma) and Caleb Swanigan (Purdue) as the only major conference players in the past 25 seasons with back-to-back 20/20 games. With 20 points and 20 rebounds, while playing all 40 minutes in a 71-70 win at Northwestern, Champagnie joined Tim Duncan, Kevin Durant and Ben Simmons as the only major conference players in the past 25 years to accomplish that feat.
Participating team will be permitted 10 staff members for drills and six for in-person interviews. All team personnel must be fully vaccinated.
ESPN2 (June 24) and ESPNU (June 25) will provide coverage of 5-on-5 games from 3-7 p.m. EST each day.
The NBA Draft is scheduled for July 29.
Champagnie is one of 11 ACC players selected to participate in the combine. His twin brother, Julian, was also invited to the event. A full list of invitees is available HERE.
