PITTSBURGH – Seniors Ally Brunton and Josh Higgins of the women's and men's outdoor track and field teams, respectively, were named the Office Depot/Supra Student-Athletes of the Week following impressive performances in their respective sports.
Brunton continued her steady outdoor campaign on Saturday with her best showing of her career in the 1500m run. Brunton dominated the field and posted a big PR time of 4:19.35, four seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. Her time was good enough to break a 15-year-old school record in the event and currently ranks as the 45th best time in the East Region which would qualify her for the NCAA preliminary round in Jacksonville.
Higgins had a night to remember on Saturday as he not only claimed the victory in the 3000m Steeplechase but broke the longest standing outdoor Pitt school record in the process. Higgins posted a huge PR time of 8:45.75 to take home gold and break a 49-year-old school record in the event. His impressive time is the best in the ACC, seventh best in the East Region and 19th in the NCAA this season.
