Women’s Track & Field, Men’s Soccer Student-Athletes Honored
PITTSBURGH – Lydia Bottelier of women's track & field and Valentin Noel of men's soccer were named the Office Depot/Supra Student-Athletes of the Week following impressive performances in their respective sports.
Making her first appearance in the ACC Outdoor Championships, Bottelier had the best performance of her young career in the high jump on Saturday afternoon. The Erwinna, Pa., native cleared the first two heights with ease before setting a personal record with her third jump as she soared over 5-8.75 (1.75m). The new PR leap also marked the third best jump in program history in the event. Bottelier was unable to clear the next height but earned a second-place finish and First Team All-ACC honors for her efforts. She also earned seven points for the team with the impressive leap. Her height currently ranks 40th in the East Region which qualifies her for the NCAA East Preliminary Round in Jacksonville, Fla., on May 27-29.
Noel, a sophomore midfielder, scored the first and eventual game-winning goal in Pitt's 3-0 shutout of No. 7 Washington in the NCAA Quarterfinal round Monday, May 10. The goal was his 14th of the year, which is currently second in the nation. The Niort, France, native also finished the 2020-21 campaign with 30 total points, which ranks third in the country. He also had three shots and one shot on goal in the NCAA College Cup semifinal vs. No. 3 Indiana.
Noel earned United Soccer Coaches South All-Region First Team, United Soccer Coaches First Team All-America and was named a finalist for the prestigious MAC Hermann Trophy award, given to collegiate soccer's top female and male player of the year. Noel is the first Pitt men's soccer player to be named first team All-America and a MAC Hermann Trophy finalist in program history.
