GREENSBORO, N.C. – Pitt graduate transfer Felix Wolter has been named Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Co-Field Performer of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Wednesday morning.
Wolter earned the weekly recognition for the first time in his Pitt career while also becoming the first Panther in program history to earn outdoor Field Performer of the Week honors. He is one of just three Pitt student-athletes to earn the ACC outdoor weekly honor joining Desmond Palmer and Brycen Spratling.
The Munich, Germany native posted the best performance in the ACC over the last 10 seasons in his debut for Pitt in the decathlon as he blew away the field at the Virginia Challenge with a score of 7,950. His score broke a seven year old Pitt school record by more than 1000 points while also being the No. 2 mark in the NCAA and No. 8 mark in the world (No. 1 in Germany) so far this season.
Wolter dominated the field at Virginia as he posted eight victories in 10 events while also racking up eight personal record marks as he claimed victory by over 800 points. He was also able to post three top-10 Pitt marks as he notched the third best long jump (24-11.75, 7.61m), the third best pole vault (15-11, 4.85m) and the sixth best high jump (6-6.75, 2.00m).
With his performance at Virginia, Wolter has seemingly wrapped up a trip to the 2021 Outdoor NCAA Championships in Eugene as he will look to bring home the Panthers' first national championship on the men's side since Lee McRae in 1986 (100m). His goal score at the NCAA Outdoor Championships is 8,350 which is the Olympic standard score in the decathlon for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.
The Pitt track and field squads have this week off before returning to the track on April 30 – May 1 for the Kentucky Open, their final regular season meet of the outdoor campaign.
