
Pitt Falls to Miami in ACC Tournament First Round

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Pitt men's basketball team fell to Miami, 79-73, in the ACC Tournament First Round Tuesday afternoon at the Greensboro Coliseum.
Freshman Femi Odukale scored a career-and-game high 28 points on 11-of-16 shooting. Odukale also registered six rebounds, three assists, one block and a steal. Nike Sibande totaled a season-high 24 points, while Justin Champagnie recorded his 14th double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Pitt led 17-12 through the first ten minutes of action. Miami (9-16) used a 9-2 run to lead, 21-19, at the 7:58 mark and led by as much as seven (31-24) with 4:04 left to play in the first half. The Panthers cut the Hurricane lead to two three separate times and trailed, 40-36, at the break.
Odukale and Sibande combined for 26 points on 11-of-15 shooting in the opening half with four made threes.
The Panthers tied the game at 44 four minutes into the second half and took a 47-46 lead with 15:07 left to play. Five lead changes ensued and the Hurricanes held a 58-57 advantage with seven and a half to go.
Odukale's made jumper after the under four media timeout tied the contest at 64 all, and a made layup from Champagnie put Pitt up, 66-64, with 3:36 on the clock. Miami answered with a 9-0 run and took a seven point lead (73-66). The Panthers got within four (77-73) after a Sibande three with 16 seconds left, but two made free throws from Miami's Isaiah Wong clinched the victory for the Hurricanes.
Five Hurricane's finished in double figures, led by Wong, who registered a team-best 20 points and tallied four assists. Anthony Walker, Elijah Olaniyi and Kameron McGusty each scored 14 points, with Walker adding nine rebounds, four assists, a block and a steal to his stat line.
Senior Terrell Brown grabbed three rebounds and blocked three shots, moving him into third all-time at Pitt with 173 career blocks. Ithiel Horton scored 10 points and added three assists off the bench for the Panthers.
