Pitt Gymnastics to Face Mountaineers Three Consecutive Times
PITTSBURGH – The Pitt gymnastics team (5-8-1) will host West Virginia (0-6, 0-6 Big 12) for the first of three consecutive meets in the storied Backyard Brawl rivalry against the Mountaineers, starting Friday night at 7 p.m. ET at Fitzgerald Field House.
Pitt will host West Virginia again Friday, March 12, before traveling to Morgantown, W.Va., to compete at the WVU Coliseum Sunday, March 14.

LAST TIME OUT
- Three Panthers reached the podium as Pitt placed third in a quad meet hosted by LIU alongside New Hampshire and Towson Sunday evening at Pratt Recreation Center.
- Towson claimed the team win with a score of 195.175, followed by New Hampshire in second place (194.900). Pitt came in third (194.050), ahead of the host Sharks (191.825).
- Sophomore Lauren Beckwith was runner-up in the all-around standings with a career-best score of 38.875. Junior Katie Chamberlain's balance beam score of 9.850 was good for third place overall, and sophomore Emily Liszewski placed third on vault at 9.800.
RANKING THE PANTHERS
- Pitt has two gymnasts in the EAGL's bars rankings.
- Katrina Coca its tied for second in the league with a National Qualifying Score (NQS) of 9.881, ranked No. 31 in the nation.
- Junior Katie Chamberlain is tied for fourth in the EAGL standings and is No. 66 nationally with a NQS of 9.863.
- As a team, Pitt is third in the EAGL on balance beam with a NQS of 48.869, and fourth on vault at 48.794.
SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS
- Friday is the first of three consecutive meetings in the storied Backyard Brawl rivalry. Pitt will host West Virginia again next week (March 12), before heading to Morgantown, W.Va., for the finale (March 14).
- The Panthers won their last competition against the Mountaineers, earning a program-record road score of 196.500 in Morgantown (March 1, 2020). It a close meet, as WVU scored a 196.425. It was Pitt's first win over WVU in Morgantown since Jan. 28, 1984, ending a 36-year drought.
- West Virginia is ranked No. 36 nationally, meaning if the 2021 season ended today, the Mountaineers would qualify for an NCAA Regional meet.
WE'RE HOSTING!
- The University of Pittsburgh will host the 2021 East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Championship at Petersen Events Center Saturday, March 20, as announced by the conference Thursday.
- In conjunction with the league's expansion from six to eight teams in 2021, the championship format will feature two quad-meet sessions, with the first to be held at 1 p.m. ET, and the second at 7 p.m. ET.
- Each team's session designation (1 or 2) will depend on final conference standings (1 through 8), which will be determined by National Qualifying Scores (NQS) at the conclusion of the regular season.
- Both sessions will be streamed live on ESPN3, available through the ESPN app.
