PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh Athletic Department unveiled the most recent renovation to the Petersen Sports Complex Thursday with a series of social media videos featuring the baseball, lacrosse, men's soccer, women's soccer and softball programs in their new space.
"The renovation of the Petersen Sports Complex is the first project completed in our Victory Heights vision," said Director of Athletics Heather Lyke. "This building is now a complete performance and education environment for our student-athletes and demonstrates our commitment to helping them achieve excellence in everything they do."
The renovation of the Petersen Sports Complex, completed in January, includes a third-floor addition featuring: coaches office suites and conference rooms for all five programs overlooking Vartabedian Field, Ambrose Urbanic Field and Charles L. Cost Field; the P.J. Dick, Trumbull, Lindy Paving Team Meeting Room with theatre-style seating; and the Bill and Sissy Lieberman student-athlete lounge with a 14-foot video wall, outdoor patio and communal spaces.
"Bill and Sissy Lieberman are tremendous supporters with long-time Pitt connections," said Lyke. "They haven't had the opportunity to tour the Lieberman Student-Athlete Lounge yet because of the pandemic, but I know they are anxious to come to the facility and see what their investment allowed us to provide for our student-athletes. The Lieberman Lounge is my favorite space because it is a place for student-athletes to gather, study, eat, socialize and enjoy the best views of the city on campus. We are so grateful for the generous support of our donors which allow us to complete these transformative projects for our coaches and student-athletes."
The second floor of the facility now features a fully-stocked nutrition room, an athletic training space with private offices and exam rooms, hot and cold tubs and a boost treadmill for therapy and rehabilitation, along with a full-service equipment room and lockers for all teams.
Each of the programs also benefit from first floor locker room renovations and environmental branding reinforcing "The Gold Standard," Pitt student-athletes' commitment to excellence, established under Director of Athletics, Heather Lyke.
The Petersen Sports Complex renovation also features the creation of the Victory Tower. The three-story glass stairwell is equipped with special RGBW LED lighting that will illuminate Pitt Blue following a Panther home win for the baseball, softball, lacrosse and soccer programs.
