PITTSBURGH—After claiming its first Atlantic Coast Conference championship with a resounding victory over Wake Forest, the Pitt football program achieved another historic milestone today when it received an official invitation to the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl played in Atlanta's Mercedes-Benz Stadium on December 30.
The 11-2 Panthers will take on 10-2 Michigan State in one of the most compelling matchups of the college bowl season. Pitt is ranked a program-best No. 12 in the final College Football Playoff rankings. Michigan State is No. 10.
The game, which will be played at 7 p.m. and televised on ESPN, marks Pitt's first appearance in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl. The Panthers last played in a traditional New Year's Six bowl following the 2004 season (Fiesta Bowl).
While this will be the first postseason game between Pitt and Michigan State, the teams have met seven prior times during the regular season. The most recent encounter was in 2007—a 17-13 Michigan State victory in East Lansing—when Pitt head coach Pat Narduzzi was the Spartans' defensive coordinator.
Narduzzi led the Spartans' defense from 2007-14 under Mark Dantonio, the winningest head coach in Michigan State history. During that stretch, Michigan State had five Top 25 finishes. The 2013 team went 13-1, captured the Big Ten championship and defeated Stanford, 24-20, in the Rose Bowl.
Pitt fans interested in purchasing tickets to the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl can do so online beginning today or by calling the Pitt Ticket Office during normal business hours (8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday) at 800-643-7488.
