PITTSBURGH – Three Pitt men's soccer players have been invited and will compete in the 2021 Adidas MLS College Showcase in Cary, N.C., this weekend as announced by Major League Soccer.
Graduate student Jasper Löeffelsend, senior Arturo Ordoñez and sophomore Bertin Jacquesson will take part in the showcase starting Friday, Dec. 10 through Sunday, Dec. 12.
The showcase is in conjunction with the NCAA College Cup, which begins Friday with the NCAA Championship Final happening Sunday afternoon. The three-day event will give technical staffs from every MLS club an opportunity to scout top collegiate prospects in the nation, including players with remaining NCAA eligibility.
The 2021 Adidas MLS College Showcase will feature 44 top college players, ranging from freshmen to graduate students, participating in a series of training sessions, testing, interviews, and match play. This event will allow MLS clubs to scout and interact with potential MLS SuperDraft selections across different stages of their collegiate careers without jeopardizing players' collegiate eligibility.
Löeffelsend tallied nine assists and two goals in 17 games this season. He was recently named United Soccer Coaches Second Team All-America as well as a semifinalist for the prestigious MAC Hermann Trophy. His assist total ranks 18th in the country while his 0.53 assists per game is 14th in the nation.
Ordoñez finished the season with three goals, one assist and 18 shots in 19 games played. The Salou, Spain, native was a pivotal piece to the Panther back line that earned six shutouts this season and set a school record with 11 wins at home. Ordoñez's efforts on the field earned him All-ACC Second Team and All-ACC Tournament Team honors.
Jacquesson led the Pitt offense with seven goals, 11 assists and a .535 shot on goal percentage. His total assists rank fifth in the country, while his 25 total points are good for fourth in the ACC. The forward earned All-ACC Second Team honors a year after winning ACC Freshman of the Year for the 2020-21 season.
