Women’s Diving, Men’s Soccer Student-Athletes Honored
PITTSBURGH – Amy Read of women's diving and Valentin Noel of men's soccer were named the Pitt Student-Athletes of the Week following impressive performances in their respective sports.
Read, a senior diver, had a stand-out performance during the two-day non-conference dual meet with George Washington over the weekend. She notched first place in all three diving events - 1-meter, 3-meter, and platform, posting season high scores for the team in each event as well. Her scores of 329.85 in the 3M, 248.70 on platform, and a new personal best of 308.33 in the 1M also earned her NCAA Zone Cuts in each event. Of the four meets in which Pitt divers have competed in so far this season, Read has earned at least one Zone cut in each one.
Noel, a junior, scored two crucial goals, including a golden goal game-winner, in the ACC Championship Quarterfinal vs. No. 8 seed Virginia Tech at home Sunday. Noel scored on Pitt's first shot attempt of the day in the 5th minute and registered the game-winner in the 103rd minute, sending the Panthers to the ACC Championship Semifinal for the third-straight season. The Niort, France, native is second on the team in goals (6) and third in points (16) while the multi-goal game was the fifth of his career.
