PITTSBURGH—After his clutch performances over the weekend, University of Pittsburgh junior wrestler Jake Slinger has been named the ACC Wrestler of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.
Slinger, a Pittsburgh native, ensured that the Pitt wrestling team went 2-0 last weekend by winning both of his matches at heavyweight with dual results on the line in the last bouts at Buffalo and Edinboro.

Not only did Slinger (5-1) win both decisive contests, he did so by pin each time.
Slinger stuck Buffalo's Toby Cahill in 4:32 to clinch Pitt's 21-12 victory on Friday night. Then he planted Edinboro's Max Millin to the mat in 3:54 on Saturday evening to secure a 28-20 win for the Panthers.
Two Panthers – Jake Wentzel (Jan. 5) and Nino Bonaccorsi (Feb. 2) – were named ACC Wrestler of the Week last season, and both went on to win conference titles and earn All-America honors after reaching the finals of their respective weight classes at the 2021 NCAA Championships.
Pitt (2-0) will be back in nonconference action again this weekend at Lehigh on Sunday, Nov. 21 at 2 p.m.
The Panthers, ranked No. 15 this week by the NWCA Coaches Poll, will host Maryland next Monday at the Fitzgerald Field House to open the home schedule. That ACC-Big Ten showdown will begin at 6 p.m. and be broadcast online on ACC Network Extra via the ESPN streaming app.
