Pitt Defeats Gannon, 89-64, in Exhibition Monday Night

PITTSBURGH – The Pitt men's basketball team defeated Gannon in an exhibition contest, 89-64, Monday night at the Petersen Events Center.
Graduate student transfer Mouhamdou Gueye posted a double-double with 17 points and 10 boards while adding four blocks and two steals. Sophomore Femi Odukale led all scorers with 20 while grabbing seven boards and redshirt junior Ithiel Horton finished with 16 points.
The Panthers jumped out to a 14-3 lead through the first five and a half minutes in the first half. The Golden Knights delivered a stretch of four-straight threes to get within six (28-22), but made baskets by both Odukale and Gueye gave Pitt a double-digit lead.
Pitt led 36-27 at the break, with both Horton (11) and Odukale (12) combining for 25 points.
The Panthers outscored Gannon 11-6 in the first five and a half minutes in the second half and led 47-33 into the first media timeout. After the Golden Knights cut it to eight (51-43) with 12:13 to play, Pitt never led by single-digits again, scoring nine-straight in the ensuing two minutes to take a 62-43 advantage. Pitt led by as much as 28 points in the second half.
Gueye scored 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting and grabbed seven boards in the second half. Sophomore William Jeffress, an Erie, Pa, native registered eight points, five rebounds and two assists on the night while sophomore John Hugley finished just shy of a double-double with eight points and nine rebounds.
Pitt posted a 53-38 edge on the glass and tallied 25 second chance points in the game. The Panthers also had a decisive advantage in points in the paint (42-26), while going 24-of-35 from the foul line.
