Women’s Soccer, Football Student-Athletes Honored
PITTSBURGH – Amanda West of women's soccer and SirVocea Dennis of football were named the Pitt Student-Athletes of the Week following impressive performances in their respective sports.
West scored three goals in two-straight halves of action. The sophomore produced the game-winning goal and another one in the 3-0 home shutout of Boston College. She had the Panthers' lone goal against (RV) Wake Forest.
Dennis recorded four tackles against Clemson as the Pitt defense held the Tigers to 17 points and 315 yards during Saturday's 27-17 win at Heinz Field. He also came up with perhaps the game's most crucial play early in the third quarter with Pitt holding a 14-7 lead. With a Tigers drive reaching midfield, Dennis intercepted a D.J. Uiagalelei shovel pass, returning it 50 yards for a touchdown to give Pitt a 21-7 advantage at the 11:30 mark. Pitt's lead would remain in double-digits for the rest of the game. It was the first career touchdown for Dennis and the third defensive touchdown scored by Pitt this season—all by INT.
