PITTSBURGH – Lexis Akeo of volleyball and Jack Miller of men's cross country were named the Pitt Student-Athletes of the Week following impressive performances in their respective sports.
Akeo reached a career milestone with her 2,000th career assist over the weekend as the fourth-ranked volleyball team earned key road wins at Miami (Oct. 15) and Florida State (Oct. 17). The junior setter became just the 10th player in program history to achieve the accomplishment. Currently Akeo ranks 10th all-time for Pitt with 2,012 career assists. She is averaging 5.01 assists per set this season as the Panthers rank 10th in the nation in the category as a team.
Miller continued his strong campaign Friday at the Penn State National Open as he was able to collect a second place finish after being edged out at the finish line by a Penn State runner. The redshirt sophomore led the Panthers for the third straight meet as he posted an 8K time of 25:27.50 while also leading the Panthers to a third place team finish against a field of talented squads. Miller and the Panthers return to action in two weeks as they head to Notre Dame for the ACC Cross Country Championships.
