PITTSBURGH – Head coach Jeff Capel along with guards Ithiel Horton and Nike Sibande will represent the Panthers at the Atlantic Coast Conference Tipoff at the Charlotte City Center in Charlotte, N.C. on Tuesday, Oct. 12. The Pitt trio along with counterparts from across the conference will meet with the league and national media throughout the day in advance of the 2021-22 season.
Horton, a redshirt junior guard, is the Panthers' leading returning scorer after averaging 8.9 points per game with 10 double-digit scoring efforts a year ago. He was 10th among ACC players in three-point percentage at .371 (minimum 2.0 3pg.) and made two or more threes in 11 of 22 contests played. The Vauxhall, N.J., native enters his third season of college basketball with 632 points (11.5 ppg.) and 122 three-point field goals over 55 career games (41 starts).
Sibande had his 2020-21 season delayed by a late NCAA eligibility ruling and also missed time due to COVID-10 contact tracing. Despite the early season setbacks that limited him to 14 games played (eight starts), Sibande flashed his scoring ability reaching double-figures in three of the final five games of the season, including a pair of 20+ point efforts. He closed the year averaging 6.9 points and 3.0 rebounds per game, while shooting a team-high 43.6 percent (17-of-39) from three-point range. He posted a season-high 24 points with five three-point field goals in the opening round of the ACC Tournament against Miami. The Indianapolis, Ind., native has scored 1,560 points while making 203 three-point field goals in 111 career games.
