Pitt Track & Field Announces 2021 Indoor Schedule

PITTSBURGH – The Pitt track and field programs will compete in five regular season meets as part of their 2021 indoor schedule, as announced by head coach Alonzo Webb Thursday morning.
"For the first time since we joined the ACC in 2014, all of our competitions will be contested at ACC only venues," stated head coach Alonzo Webb. "We made this decision largely because of the restrictions caused by the pandemic and the restrictions put in place by other Power 5 conferences, restricting their competitions to conference only opponents. This schedule provides limited opportunities this year which will require our student-athletes to be focused and prepared to take advantage of each opportunity they are presented with right away."
The Panthers will open up their 2021 campaign with a pair of meets on the final weekend of January. Pitt will be sending a group of student-athletes to the Notre Dame Invitational and a group of student-athletes to the Bob Pollock Meet hosted by Clemson on Jan. 29-30.
"Our first meet of the season being on Jan. 29-30 will be the latest in the season we've had our first competition in nearly two decades," said Webb. "The silver with the late start to the season is it will allow us to be more prepared than ever for the first meet of the season."
February will begin with a trip to Blacksburg, Virginia for the first of two meets at the Rector Field House in Virginia Tech. The Panthers will compete in the Doc Hale Elite Meet on Feb. 5-6 before closing out the regular season slate with the Virginia Tech Challenge on Feb. 19-20. Between those meets, the Panthers will head to Clemson, South Carolina for the Tiger Paw Invite on Feb. 12-13.
Pitt will conclude the month of February with the ACC Indoor Track & Field Championships from Feb. 25-27. The Championships this year will be hosted by Clemson at the Clemson Indoor Track & Field Complex and there will be no fans allowed.
The NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships will be hosted this year by the University of Arkansas on Mar. 12-13. The meet will take place in Fayetteville, Arkansas at the Tyson Indoor Track Center, a site that has hosted 13 NCAA Championship meets since 2000.
